Supreme Court ruling: Emulate Jonathan – Ohanaeze to Atiku

Image
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, OYC, has reacted to President Muhammadu Buhari’s Supreme Court victory over Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. In a statement issued on Wednesday by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the group’s President General and Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, the Secretary General, they asked Atiku of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to accept defeat like former President Goodluck Jonathan.  Reports shows that a seven-man panel of the Supreme Court headed by the Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Tanko Muhammed, on Wednesday,  dismissed the appeal filed by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar,  challenging the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari in the February 23, 2019 presidential election. The OYC statement read: “Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide congratulates President Muhammadu Buhari on the Supreme Court validation of his victory at the February 23rd Presidential elections 2019. FG, ASUU inch closer to final agreement

The dispute between the Federal Government and lecturers of tertiary institutions may end this week. The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, told journalists at a briefing in Abuja on Sunday that issues which led to the industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities and their counterparts in polytechnics had been resolved. Adamu said, “I should comment now on the ongoing strike which I hope will be called off today or perhaps tomorrow but certainly there will be no strike by next week (this week). “I expected that by now ASUU would have called off their strike because we have virtually reached agreement on all issues. So, I hope either today or tomorrow but certainly within the week, ASUU strike will be off.” The minister said the government had released money to settle outstanding allowances and shortfalls. He explained that the disbursement would be done by the Office of the Auditor-General of the Federation. He commended the colleges of education lectur...

Solskjaer aims to continue impressive start as Man Utd manager

Image
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer aims to continue his impressive start as Manchester United manager at home to Burnley on Tuesday, with the case for him to be appointed permanently seemingly growing by the week. The FA Cup fourth-round victory at Arsenal on Friday took the Norwegian caretaker manager’s record to eight successive wins since taking over from Jose Mourinho before Christmas — a mark that surpasses even the great Matt Busby at the start of an Old Trafford managerial reign. While it appears Tottenham Hotspur’s Mauricio Pochettino remains United’s preferred choice as long-term appointment, the strides Solskjaer is making on and off the pitch make an increasingly compelling case for the 45-year-old to win the job. A fourth-placed finish, and Champions League football next season, were looking a distant dream in the latter days of Mourinho’s reign, but victory over Burnley would lift United level on points with Chelsea, for 24 hours at least. Shackles off Pogba – It is all a...

2019 election: APC will battle PDP with force, money – Oji Kalu

Image
Former Abia state governor, Orji Kalu, has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) was prepared to tackle the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 election Kalu spoke on Sunday in an interview with newsmen in his Camp Neya country home in Igbere, Bende Local Government Area of the state. The APC candidate in Abia North Senatorial District expressed confidence that the party would have landslide victory in all the elections. The party has the antidote against rigging. We will never allow anybody to rig us out in Abia again. We shall match them force by force and money for money,” he said. He further dispelled the speculation that the president hated Ndigbo, saying that Buhari had done for the area what PDP government could not do in their 16 years. Kalu cited the ongoing rehabilitation of the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, Enugu-Onitsha Expressway and the construction of the second Niger Bridge as some of Buhari’s major projects in the area, to buttress his...

APC removes Okorocha as Imo campaign coordinator

Image
The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress has removed the Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, as the state coordinator of the party’s campaign council. The decision followed the recommendation of the disciplinary committee set up by the Imo APC over allegations of anti-party activities levelled against the governor and others. The committee chaired by Mathew Omegara had earlier summoned the governor and six others to appear before it. The National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, had said the National Working Committee of the party would meet to consider the Imo APC recommendation that Okorocha should be suspended. What has happened in Imo shows that the APC means business. Once they have complied with all the rules, no problem. When they bring the recommendation to the NWC, we will look at it,” he had said. But a member of the Imo State chapter of the APC told our correspondent on Sunday that Okorocha had already been removed by the NWC...
